Mental Health/Art Therapy Design

D3tox

Project Overview

By definition, a toxic relationship is a relationship characterized by behaviours on the part of the toxic partner that are emotionally and not infrequently, physically damaging to their partner. The design purpose is to provide mental support through art therapy to these people who have suffered a lot.

Outcome

A workshop has been organized and people were asked to visualize how they feel during toxic relationships by air dry clay.

This experiment has been effective in helping people to face the fear and stop judging themselves.

Toxic relationship damages self-esteem and drains energy. The widespread belief that it's normal to be upset after a breakup and time will heal everything. But during this hard period, people may ignore the emotional damage and even can't forgive themselves for a long time.Since art therapy has been an effective way to help people to recover from trauma and build self-esteem.

Since art therapy has been an effective way to help people to recover from trauma and build self-esteem. I want to provide mental support through art therapy to these people who have suffered a lot. So the target audience are People who were suffered from toxic relationship or be mental abused by toxic behaviors.

Women are often seen as vulnerable, while men can also be hurted.

After Research...

According to the well-known book in this field called Psychopath Free. The book contains methods to identify toxic people, how to break up with such people, and how to heal yourself and be free.

Mackenzie breaks down the healing process into the following 3 steps: stop judging yourself and build self-esteem, distract yourself and move on.

So the experiments are based on these steps.

The core value of this experiment is share and confront. I organize a workshop and ask some of my friends to visualize how they feel during toxic relationship by air dry clay. It was all organized with their consent.

After we visualize our feelings, our fears and moods are no longer abstract things unknown, but specific things. And as we are making clay, we also share our stories, we may have experienced the same thing, and we encourage each other.

As the previous experiment focus on the first part of the healing process, another experiment-card game aims to concentrate on other parts.

The card game consists of multiple cards, each with a specific task to help people distract or rebuild confidence. Users can set the number of tasks they need to complete each day and then randomly draw cards.

I used green and blue as the main colours, because these two colours proved to be able to elicit a high number of positive emotional responses. After user-testing, the feedback from people shows that they can move on more quickly and make peace with their past through these events.

How might we...?

Create a support kit—— D3tox that is a combination of healing tools that covers all aspects of the healing journey, including the air dry clay, and card game.

People can make clay to visualize their fear and use cards to get themselves distractive.
